If you are running Windows 7 or 8, you may have noticed a little icon in your system tray that looks like the Windows logo.
When you click this logo a message pops up about upgrading to Windows 10 for free this July. This message is real, and you can in fact upgrade to Windows 10 for free, once its released. For the first year after Windows 10 is released, Microsoft is offering the upgrade for free. If you don’t upgrade within the first year, you will have to pay the normal upgrade fee to get Windows 10.
Now, should you upgrade? I have been playing with Windows 10 for a while now, and I really like it. I basically describe it as a hybrid of Windows 7 and Windows 8. Windows 10 is fast like Windows 8, but has a more “traditional” interface, like Windows 7.
That said, for businesses I would hold off for a few months, at least, to make sure there aren’t any big problems. I don’t think there will be, but you never know. You also want to make sure any software that you use, is compatible with Windows 10. Most software that works on Windows 7 should work fine on Windows 10, but it never hurts to confirm that with the software vendors.
If its a personal computer I would say go ahead and upgrade whenever you want to. In either case just make sure to have a good backup of your data, just in case.
I personally have already claimed my upgrades, but I like to live on the bleeding edge 🙂
